Doosan DART Suite vs Universal Robots PolyScope

If you are choosing the software operators and integrators will use every day to teach, simulate, and deploy a collaborative arm, pick Doosan's DART-Suite when you want a multi-device Doosan module and store workflow with DRL and Platform 3. Pick Universal Robots' PolyScope (5 or X) when you want UR's included pendant-first node and URScript platform, with the UR+ and Academy path and the Gen 7 PolyScope X roadmap. Both stacks are locked to their own robots, and neither publishes a clean standalone software list price.

DART-Suite and PolyScope
PointDoosan DART-SuiteUniversal Robots PolyScope
Pick it for

A multi-device module and store workflow, with DRL and Platform 3.

The included pendant, URScript, the UR+ and Academy path, and the Gen 7 PolyScope X roadmap.

Runs on

Doosan robots only. The Integrated Controller PDF ties Dart-Suite to H / M / A / E series on the new controller.

UR robots only. PolyScope does not run on Doosan arms.

Current line

Integrated controller software V3.0, sold since 2024. Dart-Suite replaces App Builder / Mate for new development on that stack.

PolyScope 5 (downloads around 5.24; handbook for SW 5.26) and PolyScope X (handbooks for 10.14). X is the preferred current OS.

Hardware pair

The new integrated controller, software V3.

Gen 7 is g-Series arms + CB7 Core + TP7 Core + PolyScope X. CB5.5 runs PolyScope 5. CB5.6 can run PolyScope X. Selected e-Series and UR Series arms can run PolyScope X with compatible Gen 7 hardware.

Teach UI

Task Editor on the pendant: Move, Flow, Signal, Force, Advanced, and insert DRL. Platform also runs as free PC software.

A node program tree on the teach pendant. PolyScope X adds modules, an operator screen, smart skills, and progressive disclosure.

Script

DRL (Doosan Robot Language), with an official manual and a VS Code extension.

URScript. UR describes it as a python-based script language.

Where the UI runs

Teach pendant (Linux) and free Windows PC software. Mac, including Apple silicon, and Android tablet are also named.

Included with the robot. PolyScope X also claims offline programming from a browser.

Custom modules

React / TypeScript and MUI v5 in the IDE, then installed on Platform, optionally via Dart-Store.

URCaps / URCapX.

Simulator

Dart-Services (Docker) builds and simulates a controller with no physical robot. DART-Studio is separate PC tooling for DRL and offline programming.

PolyScope X SDK simulator, Chrome only. External-device communication through it is currently limited.

ROS 2

Official ROS 2 docs are linked from the V3 manuals.

PolyScope X v10.14 uses ROS 2 Jazzy and Fast DDS on the controller.

Store and training

Dart-Store accounts are free (VERIFIED). Free module distribution has no extra cost (VERIFIED). Paid distribution takes a commission. Exact rate: UNCERTAIN.

UR Academy: free e-Learning, including PolyScope X, plus paid instructor-led training. AI Accelerator and some packages need a separate license.

Field buses

not published

RTDE, Modbus, PROFIsafe, and Ethernet/IP are named on the UR pages.

Standalone list price

not published

Windows DART-Platform is free PC software. Store accounts are free.

VERIFIED

not published

PolyScope and PolyScope X are included in the robot cost. Some add-ons are licensed separately. Robot price is via distributor.

VERIFIED

Programs do not port. DRL is not URScript, and neither stack publishes a clean standalone seat price.

01

Situation

The search is not "which robot is better." It is which programming and control stack your cell will live on after the arm is on the floor: teach pendant work, script, simulation, modules, and how code reaches production. Doosan sells that job as DART-Suite (also written Dart-Suite / Dr.Dart-Suite on vendor pages): DART-IDE, DART-SDK / Dart-API, DART-Store, and DART-Platform 3, with Dart-Services for Docker-based build and a virtual controller. Universal Robots sells that job as PolyScope, included with the robot, in two live major lines: PolyScope 5 on older control boxes and PolyScope X on Gen 7 (and some CB5.6) hardware. The common misread is treating these as portable IDEs. They are not. Choosing the stack is choosing the OEM.

Facts

  1. 01

Doosan Robotics documents DART-Suite / Dr.Dart-Suite as the ecosystem to develop, distribute, and run robot modules. Core pieces named across developer guides and the catalog are DART-IDE (Dart-IDE), DART-SDK / Dart-API, DART-Store (Dart-Store), and DART-Platform 3 (Dart-Platform 3). Dart-Services (Docker) supports build and a robot controller simulator without a physical robot.

  2. 02

Doosan's Developer LAB states that integrated controller software V3.0 has been sold since 2024, and that Dart-Suite replaces App Builder / Mate for new development on that stack. Related but separate PC tooling still appears in the catalog: DART-Studio for DRL plus simulation / offline programming. The Integrated Controller PDF ties Dart-Suite to H / M / A / E series on the new controller.

  3. 03

DART-Platform runs on the teach pendant and as free PC software for Windows per the catalog, with Mac (including Apple silicon) and Android tablet also named; the pendant path is Linux. Operator work uses a Task Editor (Move, Flow, Signal, Force, Advanced, insert DRL). Custom modules are built with React / TypeScript and MUI v5 in the IDE, then installed on Platform, optionally via Dart-Store (free or paid modules; paid distribution takes a commission whose rate is not published as a clean %). Script language is DRL (Doosan Robot Language), with an official Programming Manual and a VS Code DRL extension. Official ROS 2 docs are linked from Doosan V3 manuals.

  4. 04

Universal Robots documents PolyScope as the software platform for building, deploying, and scaling automation, included with every UR system. PolyScope 5 product pages list downloadable software around 5.24, with a Software Handbook titled for SW 5.26. PolyScope X handbooks apply to version 10.14. Official FAQ: PolyScope X is the software for Gen 7 systems and UR's preferred current OS roadmap; selected e-Series and UR Series arms can run PolyScope X with compatible Gen 7 hardware. Gen 7 = g-Series arms + CB7 Core + TP7 Core + PolyScope X. Older CB5.5 runs PolyScope 5; CB5.6 can run PolyScope X.

  5. 05

UR programming is a node-based program tree on the teach pendant, plus URScript (UR describes it as a python-based script language). PolyScope X adds modules / functions, operator screen, smart skills, and progressive disclosure. Offline and sim: PolyScope X claims offline robot programming from a browser; the PolyScope X SDK documents a simulator (Chrome only) and notes that communication with external devices through the simulator is currently limited. Ecosystem: URCaps / URCapX, RTDE, Modbus, PROFIsafe, Ethernet/IP. PolyScope X ROS 2 docs (v10.14): controller uses ROS 2 Jazzy + Fast DDS. AI Accelerator is listed under additional software options; some packages need extra purchase and license. UR Academy offers free e-Learning (including PolyScope X) plus paid instructor-led training.

Assessment

We assess, with high confidence on the mechanism and moderate confidence on buyer fit outside a specific cell, that this is an OEM lock-in decision dressed as a software comparison.

The stacks solve the same job with different shapes. Doosan's DART-Suite centers a module pipeline: IDE to Platform to Store, with DRL and Task Editor, multi-OS Platform clients, and Docker Dart-Services for development without the arm. Universal Robots' PolyScope centers the pendant (and, on PolyScope X, a browser-oriented UI) with nodes, URScript, URCaps, and a built-in ROS 2 path on X, included with the robot and backed by Academy e-Learning.

Hold three limits. First, programs do not port. DRL is not URScript, and Task Editor modules are not PolyScope nodes. Second, "browser anywhere" on PolyScope X and "free Windows Platform" on Doosan do not mean production control without the matching vendor controller and arm. Third, simulation exists on both sides; neither primary page reviewed here establishes full CAD / physics digital-twin parity, and UR's own SDK notes limits on external-device communication in the PolyScope X simulator.

Ecosystem and training footprint favor UR on what the vendor can show publicly (UR+, Academy free e-Learning, long PolyScope documentation tree). Doosan's parallel is Dart-Store plus multi-device Platform and a clearer "build modules like software" story for teams already on Doosan V3 controllers. Vendor marketing lines such as "industry's largest" partner network or "up to 80% faster application development" stay outside this assessment unless independently verified.

04

Implications

  • If the arm brand is already decided, the software stack is mostly decided with it. Treat this page as a confirmation checklist, not a late-stage brand swap.
  • If you need multi-device module authoring and a store distribution path on Doosan V3 hardware, DART-Suite is the native answer; do not plan to run it on UR arms.
  • If you need included pendant software, URScript, URCaps, and a Gen 7 / PolyScope X roadmap with free Academy e-Learning, PolyScope is the native answer; do not plan to run it on Doosan arms.
  • Budget software as robot-bundled plus licensed add-ons (UR) or free Platform / Store commission on paid modules (Doosan). Do not put an invented Suite seat price in the cost model.
  • For ROS 2 heavy cells, both publish paths; UR's PolyScope X Jazzy docs and RTDE are the more prominently documented public Gen 7 materials in this pass.
  • Safety certifications cited here are mostly robot-family claims (for example UR EN ISO 13849-1 / ISO 10218-1 and PolyScope 5's "17 certified safety features" for e-Series). Do not invent a matching Doosan software feature count.
05

Action

Decide the OEM first, then verify the control box and software line you will actually receive (Doosan integrated controller SW V3 + Dart-Suite versus UR CB5.5 / CB5.6 / CB7 and PolyScope 5 versus X). Have one integrator write the same pilot task in each vendor's native stack on loaner hardware or the vendor simulator, and score teach time, module reuse, and how you ship updates (Dart-Store / Platform reload versus program export and URCaps). Do not start from a promise that either simulator replaces a full cell CAD twin, and do not assume AI add-ons are production-ready without a named SKU and license.

06

What to watch

  • Doosan publishing a single clean Suite version / SKU string and Store commission rate.
  • UR Gen 7 / PolyScope X field upgrade pricing and eligibility for installed e-Series and UR Series arms.
  • Either vendor publishing independent simulation fidelity claims that go past marketing.
  • Maturity of Doosan AI module tooling beyond 2023 partnership news.
  • Whether Dart-Suite coverage is identical across all Doosan series, or some lines remain DART-Studio-centric.
